With the BLE's rejection of the proposed merger, members of these two great organizations have been denied their last opportunity to create a single union for all operating employees under conditions mutually negotiated by their elected leaders. The proposed merger, overwhelmingly endorsed by the UTU membership, would have voluntarily consolidated the individual strengths and resources of the two unions, which would have resulted in improved representation for all crafts involved.
Since that is no longer possible, UTU will pick up where it left off pursuing other avenues to unify all operating crafts.
We will post additional information as it becomes available.
